Alpha Phi Alpha to Host Convention College Fair at Coppin State

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. will host a city-wide college fair in conjunction with its 94th general convention on July 8 at Coppin State University beginning at 10:00 a.m.
Expected to host hundreds of students from the Baltimore-Metropolitan area, organizers said the college fair is designed to engage families and communities on areas of college preparation, affordability, and acclimation.
“The workshops will be provided to equip, prepare, and propel participants in making the appropriate choices for owning their future and moving to their next level of academic greatness. We will raffle off three laptops to high school students participating in the workshop.” said James West, Jr., an event co-organizer.
According to a release, regionally based colleges and universities, city and local organizations, fraternity members serving as educators and advocates will help to present workshops and seminars focusing on admissions, financial aid, test preparation and scholarships.
“This event will provide resources to high school students and adults in the greater Baltimore Area to pursue post-secondary options as well as connect with resources to help them reach their education and career goals,” said Jelani Zarif, college fair co-chair.
The event is part of the fraternity’s ‘Go-To-High School, Go-To-College’ national program, which seeks to increase the number of college-educated black men through mentoring, scholarship provision and academic support delivered through its domestic and international chapters.
