The Georgia regional division of telecommunications giant AT&T has donated $20,000 to Savannah State University, in support of graduating seniors who need micro-grants to complete their college degrees.
The fund was started by SSU President Cheryl Davenport Dozier and awards eligible students a one-time award of up to $1,500.
“AT&T has a long-standing commitment to the residents and businesses of Savannah, and we also have a historic commitment to education and to supporting students who are working hard to prepare better futures for themselves and their families,” said AT&T Regional External Relations Director Gary Sanchez. “We are proud to support the hard-working students at Savannah State University through the Closing the Gap fund.”
It is the second donation made to a public HBCU in the state in the last month. In May, the company donated an undisclosed amount to Albany State University’s general scholarship fund.
