Edward Waters College has announced receipt of a $100,000 gift from the Jessie Ball DuPont Fund, which will be used to establish an honors college at the institution next fall.
Officials say the gift and the new honors program will help to increase student diversity at the institution while bolstering new programs in law and career development partnerships with associated corporations.
“We are simply overjoyed and ecstatic to be the beneficiary of this significant investment by the Jessie Ball DuPont Fund as we continue our efforts to chiefly support student success at Edward Waters College,” said EWC President & CEO, Dr. A. Zachary Faison, Jr.
Members of the EWC faculty and academic affairs division will begin developing a curriculum and accompanying presidential scholarship program this summer.
This is great now EWC can establish a Honors Program. Quietly EWC is growing a strong academic and athletic presence in the Jacksonville Florida Metro Area
Honors Colleges are established at small colleges to showcase students with basic competency as “honorable” so they can obscure most of their students have no basic skills. In high school this is called tracking. After slavery many HBCUs were glorified high schools. This was not so in the 1930s and 1960s. Why are we moving backwards? There is no “honors college” at any legit state school, small private college, or Ivy League caliber school. (A few poorly managed private religious colleges play around) This doesn’t mean these are perfect or even a measure of validity. It just means they don’t have to hustle in that way. When will we stop falsely honoring our average and even below average at HBCUs to pretend that our students without basic skills are legit college students! We got HBCU students on full academic scholarships who would be C students at any average city university. Honor to whom honor is due. Or HBCUs will become the children who gets awards from liberal parents merely for participating. Does Black students participating make them “winners” or even scholars? Watch this “honor” code as some try to maintain the fraud of Black institutions with no independent Black values.
