Hampton 'Day of Giving' Raises $1.28 Million in 24 Hours

More than 2,000 students, faculty, staff, alumni and supporters set a new single-day philanthropic record for Hampton University last week, raising nearly $1.3 million dollars as a part of its fourth annual ‘Day of Giving.’
The campaign, driven by extensive social media outreach, on-site solicitation, and digital and traditional mail contributions raised an average of $600 among 2002 total donors. Students and alumni held events on campus and in surrounding areas to solicit gifts, which will be contributed to the campus’ $150 million capital campaign.
“This show of support in real dollars is a testament to the respect and appreciation our institution of higher learning garners from our scenic shores in Hampton, across international waters and beyond,” said. Dr. William R. Harvey, Hampton University President for nearly 40 years.
Stakeholders on campus contributed more than $17,800, while mailed in donations totaled more than $1 million from 133 donors. The historic fundraising event is in its fourth year of a planned five-year campaign.
