Iconic entertainer and entrepreneur Beyoncé Knowles this week announced the creation of a scholarship program aimed at uplifting women in areas of creativity, business and culture.
The ‘Formation Scholars’ program will award four female college students with scholarship funds to four institutions nationwide, including Howard University and Spelman College, pursuing degrees in creative arts, music, literature or African American studies.
According to the website, the scholarship fund commemorates the one-year anniversary of the release of ‘Lemonade,’ an album which has spawned several artistic and scholarly works within the HBCU community, including the ‘Lemonade Syllabus,’ curated and edited by Tennessee State University graduate Candice Benbow.
Officials at Howard say that the scholarship will total $25,000 in support, with details to be released soon.
