Corning Donates $5.5 Million to North Carolina A&T for STEM Student Scholarships
North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University announced today a $5.5 million gift chiefly to prepare students for careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and education.
The Corning Incorporated donation kicks off a five-year partnership with A&T, the nation’s largest historically Black university. It will provide scholarships through 2026, with a special focus on enhancing STEM education, helping students become community classroom teachers and boosting the number of graduates in other fields critical to the nation’s workforce. Sentara Healthcare Grant to Support Norfolk State, Old Dominion Joint School of Public Health
NSU is proud to receive a $2 million grant from Sentara Healthcare & Sentara Health Plans’ investment, which will be used to further the development of a joint School of Public Health, a collaboration between NSU and Old Dominion University (ODU). The grant also provides $2 million to ODU. Ultimately, this grant will enable NSU to proactively address the health inequities that impact Norfolk and the greater Hampton Roads Community. Shaw University’s Center for Racial and Social Justice Awarded $525,000 Gilead Sciences Grant
Gilead Sciences, Inc. has awarded the university’s Center for Racial and Social Justice (CRSJ) a $525,000 grant distributed over a three-year period. Shaw’s Center for Racial and Social Justice launched in June 2020 to further the development of a more just and equitable society.
The funding will help build general infrastructure and sustainability efforts for the CRSJ including targeted initiatives: lectures, workshops, seminars, certificate programs, forums, exhibits, student-led civic engagement, and ongoing advocacy work. ( Courtesy: Shaw University)
Morgan State University to Launch New Center for Urban Health Equity Supported Through State and Private Resources
Morgan State University announces plans to launch the University’s first-ever Center for Urban Health Equity. Housed within the University’s School of Community Health and Policy (SCHP), the new center will engage in research to address health inequities in Maryland. The initial launch of the Center for Urban Health Equity at Morgan is being made possible through funds recently received from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott and maintained by way of an annual $3 million appropriation commitment from the State of Maryland to the University’s operational budget. For its part, Morgan is dedicating $500,000 from the historic Scott gift to get the new center started, while the majority of the remaining funds have been placed into an endowment to support other strategic initiatives for future generations.
