Southern Student Overcomes Homelessness on Path to Graduation

A student at Southern University will be one of the last students to cross the stage with a bachelor’s degree in architecture from Southern University in Baton Rouge.

Two years ago, the Board of Regents voted to terminate the architecture program citing declining enrollment. Taikian Brooks is one student who was determined not to let adversity stand in the way of his degree.

“I can say I earned every bit of it,” Brooks said.

  1. I would like to know why he got kicked out of the dorm. Happy that he overcame the adversity and a great lesson to learn from but why did the school kick him out of the dorm?
