Travelers Insurance Goes Over $3 Million in Support to Morgan State

Morgan State University has announced a $517,000 gift from The Travelers’ Foundation in support of the school’s actuarial science and training program. Officials say the gift now brings the insurance company’s philanthropic support of scholarships and program development to more than $3.4 million since 2008.
The gift is part of an ongoing partnership between the school and foundation, which assists students in their pursuit of business, science and mathematics degrees with the goal of spurring career interest in risk assessment and insurance underwriting for life, property and finance.
Managed by the school’s business honors program, the Travelers EDGE (Empowering Dreams for Graduation and Employment) initiative has helped more than 30 MSU students and 240 regional high school students to earn degrees and summer STEM training, respectively.
“Travelers has been an outstanding corporate partner,“ said Dr. Karen L. Proudford, lead for the MSU Travelers Team. “The time and energy their dedicated employees have devoted to Morgan students are as important as the significant financial investment they’ve made in these young scholars’ futures.”
Morgan is the only historically black college in the nation to offer a bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, and joins Howard University as the only two HBCUs to offer a degree concentration in the discipline.
