Officials at Virginia State University say that enrollment in its summer school programs and projections for its fall enrollment are up from last year’s numbers.
According to a release, enrollment for the university’s TrojanAdvance Program has increased 42 percent since 2015, thanks in part to the school’s $100 tuition rebate program for students maintaining a ‘B’ average in each $199 online summer course.
“The increase is evidence that our $99 TrojanAdvance Program is working,” says VSU President, Dr. Makola M. Abdullah. “We saw a need and implemented this program as a cost savings strategy to help students stay on track for graduation. We believe in creating opportunities for our students.”
Officials also announced a five percent increase in admitted students – 5,414 as of June – for fall 2016. Incoming freshmen confirming attendance for the fall has also increased by 30 percent, trending with schools like Norfolk State University, Southern University, North Carolina A&T State University and Howard University to announced rising enrollment projections.
“We are excited that more students are recognizing the benefits of attending VSU,” says Rodney Hall, VSU Executive Director of Enrollment Services. “We offer excellent academic programs, and we are one of the most affordable and best academic values in the Commonwealth of Virginia.”
