WATCH – NCCU Alumnus, Capitol Hill Police Hero David Bailey Throws Out First Pitch

David Bailey, one of the two Capitol Police officers who bravely defended a group of United States congressmen from a brutal attack at an Alexandria, Va baseball field earlier this week, was honored for his bravery at a charity baseball game held between congressional Democrats and Republicans.
Bailey threw out the first pitch of the game, which was held after the shooting despite injuries to several elected officials and staffers. North Carolina Central officials praised Bailey for his courage, and reflected on his tenure of student leadership on campus. Bailey himself sustained injuries in the shooting, which resulted in the death of alleged gunman James Hodgkinson.
“We are especially proud of our Eagle hero, NCCU alumnus and U.S. Capitol Police Officer David J. Bailey, who was part of the congressional security detail and bravely put his life on the line to protect and serve the community,” said Interim Chancellor Johnson Akinleye. “This example of ‘Truth and Service’ comes as no surprise to his professors who knew him to be an engaged and empathetic student who was committed to excellence. Mr. Bailey is a 2007 NCCU graduate who earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education. His extracurricular activities included membership in Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and participation in Student Government Association.”
