Shaw University this week announced that it has tripled the amount of money it raised in all of last year. The private HBCU has collected more than $1 million in private donations, against $300,000 raised during the 2014-15 academic year.
Officials say that board leadership, which has led the increase with 100 percent participation from all members, is a key component in attracting stakeholder buy-in beyond the campus borders.
“Tripling the amounts we have received in private support within our first two quarters is a tremendous achievement and a true testament to our alumni’s and community’s support of our historic University,” said Shaw President Dr. Tashni-Ann Dubroy. “We know that our donors have many philanthropic choices and we appreciate that they have chosen to invest in the vision of Shaw University. Their generous support makes it possible for us to continue our mission of educating global scholars ready to lead and serve. By the end of our second quarter, I fully expect more record-breaking support. ”
Since August, Shaw has raised more than $770,000 in the last two months, including more than $600,000 raised during the school’s 150th anniversary celebration gala held in Raleigh last month. The event set school records for attendance and donations at a single development event.
