The Florida A&M-Florida State Joint College of Engineering will name a new dean in the coming weeks, the Tallahassee Democrat reports this week.
The finalists, ranging in experience from professor to former and current department chairs and program directors at FAMU, FSU and other institutions, will be narrowed to one finalist by the joint school’s search committee.
The dean will be a full-time faculty member of FAMU, a positioned brokered during a controversial trade of fiscal management and school leadership made between the two institutions last spring.
The finalists are:
Emmanuel Collins: John H. Seely Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Director of the Center for Intelligent Systems, Control and Robotics (CISCOR) at the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering. He received his Ph.D. in Aeronautics and Astronautics from Purdue University, an I.B.S. degree from Morehouse College and the B.M.E. degree from Georgia Institute of Technology.
Samir El-Ghazaly: Distinguished Professor and head of the department of engineering, University of Arkansas, and Director of the Division of Electrical, Communications and Cyber Systems at the National Science Foundation.
J. Murray Gibson: professor physics and founding dean of the College of Science, Northeastern University.
Bamin Khomami: Granger & Beaman Distinguished University Professor and head of the Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Department, University of Tennessee.
Bruce Locke: acting dean; former associate provost at FSU and former chairman of the college’s Department of Chemical & Biomedical Engineering. He earned his Ph.D. in chemical engineering from North Carolina State University, a master’s in chemical engineering, University of Houston, and a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering and environmental and water resources engineering from Vanderbilt University.
