Faculty members at Morehouse College yesterday filed a vote of no confidence in board chairman Robert Davidson, weeks after the school earned national attention for its presidential transition plans and just days after Howard University and Kentucky State University also generated scrutiny for faculty dissension upon terms of leadership.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports on the ongoing Morehouse saga, which some faculty members say stems from a January decision of non-renewal against President John Silvanus Wilson’s contract.

Davidson, who earlier this month issued a letter announcing that oversight of daily leadership duties would be handled by COO William Taggart, which he later clarified to be a part of the school’s plans for its executive transition over the next four months, has not responded to the faculty vote.
“The vote was an opportunity to express our frustrations,” (Morehouse Professor Ulrica) Wilson said in a telephone interview Tuesday with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “We’re hoping it will get (Davidson and the board’s) attention.”
Morehouse is the second HBCU in less than a week to host faculty votes of no confidence in board chairman. Kentucky State faculty last Friday voted no confidence in the entire board of trustees and in chairman Karen Bearden, in a vote many members believe to have been divided along racial lines.
Anonymous faculty members from Howard have forwarded multiple letters to members of the national media, outlining grievances with university president Wayne A.I. Frederick and petitioning the board for his dismissal.
