Texas Southern Narrows Presidential Search to Two Finalists

Two finalists have been submitted in consideration for the Texas Southern University presidency, but the names of the candidates will remain confidential.
In a release, university officials said the two finalists were capable and proven leaders, and ready to step in to fill the vacancy which will be left by TSU President John Rudley, who will step down at the end of the academic term.
“Texas Southern University truly appreciates the hard work and dedication of the Presidential Search Committee consisting of local business and university leaders,” said Board Chairman Derrick Mitchell. “On April 28th and 29th, the committee interviewed applicants from across the United States. The candidates were thoughtful and committed individuals interested in pursuing a unique leadership opportunity to advance the status and reputation of Texas Southern University.”
Officials originally announced a June 1 date for the appointment of a new president. Rudley served as president for nine years, and announced his retirement after a semester during which the university received national attention for a rash of campus shootings, the last of which in October left a student dead.
