Texas Southern University announced that President John M. Rudley will be stepping down at the end of the academic year.

Rudley has been at the helm of the nations’ third largest public Historically Black College and University for eight years. He made the announcement at the school’s winter commencement Saturday.

“When I arrived eight years ago, I always felt that I would come in with Obama and go out with him,” Rudley said in a prepared statement. “Today, I know that my instincts were correct. I thank you all for your support during my time as president of Texas Southern University.”

  1. He’s really not stepping down until next’s August. So why announce it now? If you are resigning, why not make it effective immediately. This happens often with these announcements. If he was a good President there, why is he leaving Mr. Porter.

  2. He’s leaving because of the inept leadership he’s displayed, in not paying attention to the safety & welfare of students; in-turn, allowing a rash of shootings to occur on campus. Good riddance!

  3. I new the truth would come out. He is not the only inept President at a HBCU. There is a guy at Morehouse who has a lot of issues.
