Jackson State will hire Tony Hughes as its next football coach, sources have confirmed to The Clarion-Ledger.
Hughes, who was the safeties coach and recruiting coordinator at Mississippi State, has been an assistant, but never a head coach, during his career.
“The only thing I’ll say is, in my career 31 years of coaching, I would love to be a head coach,” Hughes said after the Bulldogs’ practice on Saturday. “As a career assistant in the SEC, a high school coach, junior college, I would love to be a head coach in my career. There are few opportunities that arise in a career that you may get an opportunity or not.”

This is a great move for JSU. Clearly they are opening up the check book and want to win. Scary JSU will be back in the SWAC Championship real soon. This guy can coach and recruit and knows Mississippi football. Damm! I guess JSU Board really was upset about the ass wooping we put in them this year. GEAUX JAGS!!!
Now, DuWarn, if you could just get SU to do the same thing. I’m so tired of these bargain basement guys.
